Summit Pedestrian Hit By Car In Crosswalk, Hospitalized

Eileen Cunningham, 65, a resident of the Summit senior housing complex​, was crossing Broad Street at Chestnut Street when she was hit.

SUMMIT, NJ — A Summit pedestrian was hospitalized after she was hit by a car on Thursday night while walking in a marked crosswalk, police report.

The victim has been identified as Eileen Cunningham, 65, a resident of the Summit senior housing complex.

Cunningham was crossing Broad Street at Chestnut Street in the crosswalk when she was struck at around 7:06 p.m. by a 2005 Chevy van traveling west on Broad Street, Summit Police report.

Cunningham was taken by Summit EMS to Morristown Medical Center.

A summons was issued to the driver, Freeman Poquee, 65, of Newark, for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, police report.

The incident is being investigated by the Summit Police Department traffic unit accident investigation team.
