SUMMIT, NJ — Summit Police is participating in Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, a statewide crackdown on impaired driving that will take place from Aug. 16 through Sept. 4.
“Research shows that high-visibility enforcement can reduce alcohol-related crash fatalities by as much as 20 percent,” Traffic Lieutenant David L. Richel stated. “Summit Police will be conducting roving patrols to stop drivers who appear to be operating vehicles while impaired. We are committed to making Summit a safer community for all visitors, residents, and commuters.”
The campaign is run this time of year due to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reporting that the Labor Day holiday is one of the most dangerous on New Jersey roads with more drunk driving incidents reported over the holiday weekend than during any other time of the year.
