Summit Police Give Details Of Car Thefts And Attempts From July

Like other Union County towns, Summit has been dealing with car thefts and car burglaries.

SUMMIT, NJ — Summit has not been spared in the car thefts that have plagued Union County, and the city's Police Department provided information on Monday regarding the thefts of three vehicles in July and an attempted theft of at least one more.

Here are details of Summit car thefts and related crimes from July:

July 5: At 3:10 p.m., a victim of a car theft told police about a motor vehicle taken from a Broad Street business the day before. The vehicle was a black 2018 Jeep Grand Trackhawk, the victim said.

On July 16, at 5:35 a.m., someone reported an "unsecured" vehicle taken from a Colt Road residence. The victim reported the car had been taken the day before at approximately 9 p.m. The vehicle was a black 2016 Audi A7. The vehicle was valued at approximately $50,000.

On July 17 at 7:34 a.m., police responded after someone stole an "unsecured" vehicle from an Ashland Road residence. The victim said the theft occurred after 8 p.m. the night before. The thief took a gray 2013 Acura RDX valued at approximately $10,000.

On July 19, someone reported the theft of a New Jersey license plate from a vehicle parked at a Huntley Road residence. The victim said the incident had occurred on July 17 or 18.

On July 20, police took a report at 7:45 a.m. of an attempted motor vehicle burglary to a secured vehicle from a Fernwood Road residence. The attempt was captured on the owner's Ring camera system. The incident showed an unknown subject wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black pants attempting to gain entry to the parked vehicle, police said.

On July 27, someone reported the theft of a thin blue line flag from a Druid Hill Road residence. The victim said the theft had occured overnight. The value of the flag was $15.
