Summit Rallies For Furloughed Coast Guard Families
More than 70 gift cards were collected by the Summit Fire Department in January.

SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit Fire Department sent out a message of thanks last week for those who participated in the US Coast Guard gift card donation drive during the federal government shutdown.
During the last week of January, the fire department received more than 70 gift card donations that were hand delivered by Deputy Chief Donald Nelson and Chief Eric Evers to the U.S. Coast Guard Base in Bayonne, and to a local Coast Guard family in need of assistance.
“I would like to sincerely thank the citizens of Summit and area communities for your generous donations,” said Evers. “The success of the drive is another example of the generosity of the Summit community, and a well-deserved expression of appreciation for the men and women of the US Coast Guard and their extraordinary dedication to the safety of the citizens they are sworn to protect.“
