Summit Tops Plainfield 7-2 to Clinch UC Conference-Valley Division

The Hilltoppers secured the outright Division Championship during a home game Tuesday.

After a strong start, the Summit Varsity Baseball Team clinched the Union County Conference-Valley Division championship with it's 7-2 win over Plainfield Tuesday.

"We started out strong and we scored runs early," Summit Coach Kevin Zaleski said after the game.

Pitcher Eric Kaufman went just over three innings before Zaleski called in relief pitcher Andrew Aguilera. David Berardi closed out the game.

The team's offense continued to perform, with a double by Tanner Fulton, a triple by Cam Fuoti and two hits by Andrew George.

The 15-5 varsity team has one more conference game, then a few out of conference games to handle before the state tournaments begin.

Heading into the state tournament, Zaleski said the team hopes to continue the momentum that has led to a seven-game winning streak.

"Lately, we've done a lot of stuff very well, and we're going to continue to keep pressing and improving all aspects of our game," Zaleski said. The team will look to continue to perform well offensively and limit walks.
