Summit to Work on Service Projects in Honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

"Volunteer for an Hour. Serve for a Day. Change for a Lifetime." Summit encourages locals to work on service projects in honor of MLK.

SUMMIT, NJ — For the nineteenth year, the Hilltop City will hold its annual day of service on Monday, Jan. 16. The day of service is held in honor of the Rev Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his ideals, personal character and commitment to steady progress, ensuring that all people are treated equally regardless of race, ethnicity, faith, socio-economic circumstance, gender and age.

The motto for the day of service continues to be Volunteer for an Hour. Serve for a Day. Change for a Lifetime. By making it a day “on” and not a day “off,” people of all ages in Summit and neighboring communities are invited to join together to work on service projects, attend seminars and discussions, see films and otherwise hear inspiring speeches from honored youth and adults who will receive the "Keeper of the Dream Award" for their dedicated contributions.

From 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., several hundred people will be reminded of the vision, scholarship and peaceful action of a man honorably remembered for his courage and leadership of the Civil Rights Movement. The day of service events are free and open to the public. Find the schedule of service events here.
