Summit's residents, friends and family are invited to attend SUmmit's Annual Memorial Day Parade starting at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 26, 2014. The morning's activities begin with a parade featuring the American Legion Post 322, Summit Police and Fire Departments, Summit EMS, Scout Troops, Local Organizations and the Summit High School Band. The parade begins at Beechwood Road near the Bouras Building. It then proceeds down Beechwood Road to Springfield Avenue where it will turn towards Maple Street and onto the Village Green. Once the parade reaches the Village Green, crowds will gather at the City's Showmobile for music and a short, but moving ceremony. Veterans will distribute flags to children and various local organizations will march with the parade to show their support for those who died serving our nation. The Summit Elks Lodge #1246 will provide hot dogs and drinks to those who attend. Organizations wishing to march in the parade are asked to send their intent to mcaputo@cityofsummit.org. The parade and ceremony will be held rain or shine.
The Mayor's Fourth of July and Celebration Committee is the official sponsor for the event. This year, a very special program has been added to the weekend's observances.
