Tai Chi Class at SAGE Has Openings

SAGE Eldercare’s Tai Chi classes have openings for older adult participants in the weekly class sessions with instructor Judith Rew.  The classes, which are open to the public, are held on Tuesdays from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm at 290 Broad Street in Summit.

SAGE began hosting Tai Chi classes for older adults a few years ago because research shows that these types of movement improve balance, bone density, arthritis symptoms, immune function, mental acuity, and cardiovascular fitness.  Additionally, Tai Chi is a very beneficial form of exercise as a means of preventing falls and injuries.

Judith Rew is an affiliated instructor with the Tai Chi Academy of North Jersey and began her training in Traditional Yang Family Tai Chi with Holly Sweeney-Hillman more than eleven years ago.  She has achieved the level of Gold Eagle (Level 3) in the Yang Family ranking system.  Previously, Judith trained in Goju Ryu and Shotokan karate for 15 years.  In August 2012, she traveled to China and competed in the Yang Traditional Tai Chi Fourth International Invitational Tournament of Shanxi Province, China, and earned two bronze medals.

“Many students begin Tai Chi to enjoy the health benefits and find themselves in love with the beauty and tranquility of the movements.  I know that many people could benefit from this practice, which is a fascinating art,” noted Ms. Rew.
