THE FACE OF LOVE - a mysterious, creepy love story

We were very moved by this mysterious and emotional film drawing loosely from Hitchcock's VERTIGO. Annette Bening gives a quietly brilliant performance as a grieving widow (Nikki) who meets a man who is the spitting image of her late husband (played by Ed Harris before AND after.) Sounds a little crazy, and it is, but the film manages to pull it off. It's one third heavenly, two thirds creepy. The director's beautiful camera work - floating around and behind characters, showing only pieces of their bodies and the background, and his use of shadows - effectively creates the feel of Nikki's splintered memories impinging on reality, and a haunting mood that draws us in.  Worth your while.
