Third Bomb Threat in Two Weeks at Union County School

Students evacuated as K-9 Unit sweeps buildings

Today marked the third time in two weeks that schools at the Union County Educational Services Commission were targeted with bomb threats.

Union County Sheriff Joseph Cryan said the Westfield police asked the Union County K-9 Unit to assist and do a sweep of the buildings. No explosives were found in all three occasions.

The most recent threat was made today, Nov. 19 at 1:10 p.m. This was the second bomb threat at Hillcrest Academy South, and all students from Westlake School, Lamberts Mill Academy and Hillcrest Academy South were evacuated, according to tapinto.net.

The source of the threat was a phone call and yesterday’s threat was when a nurse found a flip-book style cartoon of a bomb, according to tapinto.net.

Students and staff at the 1571 Lamberts Mill Road complex were also evacuated due to a bomb threat last Tuesday, Nov. 10 according to tapinto.net.

“All threats to our school are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly,” said Michael Kowalski, director of pupil and personnel services at UCESC. “We will continue to work with the Westfield Police Department and our Emergency Management consultant to ensure the on-going safety of our students.”
