Summit Man ID'd As Person Fatally Hit By Train

Breaking: Authorities have identified the man fatally hit by an NJ Transit train Monday morning in Summit as a city resident.

SUMMIT, NJ — Authorities have identified the man fatally hit by an New Jersey Transit train Monday morning in Summit as a city resident.

Michael Kane, 46, of Summit was identified as the victim hit a Morris & Essex line train 6610 at around 6:30 a.m., Nancy Snyder, an NJ Transit spokeswoman told Patch.

The train had left Dover at 5:55 a.m. and was on its way to Hoboken when it struck the adult man on the tracks near the Summit train station, Snyder said.

The train line was suspended at the time and resumed operating as of 7:40 a.m. A 60-minute delay in both directions followed but has since been cleared.

The incident is still under investigation.
