Wife Of Summit Officer Killed In Crash Gives Birth To Daughter
Anastasia Catherine Tarentino was born to parents Victoria and Det. Matthew Tarentino. Det. Tarentino died in May on his way to work.
SUMMIT, NJ — The wife of Summit police Det. Matthew Tarentino, who was killed in a car crash in May, gave birth to their daughter this week, the police department announced on Thursday.
Victoria Tarentino gave birth to Anastasia Catherine Tarentino at Overlook Medical Center in Summit and "mom and baby are doing great!" the department wrote on Facebook.
"Proud big brothers Robbie and Ray are eager for their little sister to start playing with them!" the department wrote. The boys are 3- and 2-years-old, respectively.

Det. Tarentino was killed in a May 30 crash in Bernards Township while driving to work. He was a five-year veteran of the force, and worked as the town's D.A.R.E. officer in schools.
Tarentino was remembered as an "exceptional police officer" with an "unparalleled" character, Summit Police Chief Robert Wreck said shortly after his death.

"His legacy is one of strong community connections and balanced, enthusiastic outreach. While he may be gone, he will never be forgotten, and his family will always be part of ours," Wreck said.
A fundraiser to benefit the Tarentino family has raised nearly $600,000 since May 31.
