Summit Farmers Market Bans Plastic Check Out Bags

You'll notice a few changes at the Summit Farmers Market ...there's going to be a little more GREEN going on than previous years.

Starting Sunday, April 28, vendors will no longer be permitted to use plastic check out bags (plastic produce bags and paper bags will be permitted). Shoppers are encouraged to bring their own reusable shopping bags and while supplies last, the Summit Farmers Market with be giving out free reusable bags.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, over 380 billion plastic bags, sacks and wraps are consumed in the U.S. each year and the average family accumulates 60 plastic bags in only four trips to the grocery store. Yes...sixty bags in just four trips. By simply reusing bags we could reduce that amount significantly and make a huge impact.
