Organized labor in the United States has shrunk to include a historically low fraction of American workers. Major political debate about the role of unions focuses almost exclusively on those in the public sector, where there are indeed difficult questions, but other problems confront labor as well. We will discuss what roles labor can and should play in our economy and politics and how the labor movement can act most ethically and effectively.
