The speaker will be Dr. Joseph Chuman, Leader of the Ethical Culture Society. In Joe's words: "The goal of humanists ... is not to try to bring about a post-ethnic, universal utopia. It is, rather, to seek to humanize, that is, liberalize, the social atmosphere so that this condition of mutual group recognition and respect [pluralism] can be realized. With that said, pluralism also brings with it certain problems, which in my view make it necessary but not sufficient for justice to prevail."
You are welcome to stay for Lunch with the Leader and/or coffee/tea and cake following the Platform program.
In addition, we are delighted to be able to offer an afternoon concert, performed by The Palisades Virtuosi at 3:00 pm, followed by delicious cakes and pastries prepared by our own Azar Gordon. This concert is a fundraiser for the Society. The requested donation is $20. You can e-mail or call me to reserve tickets, or you can purchase tickets Sunday morning or at the door before the concert begins.
