Future of School Busing Presentation Tonight

Presentation to examine reducing busing costs, creating local elementary schools.

A Toms River-based consultant will present a report on possible future school busing options at tonight’s Board of Education workshop meeting, according to the school district.

The presentation by consultant Gus Kakavas will include “a discussion of the feasibility of changing district attendance areas to create local elementary schools to reduce busing costs,” the district website says. There will also be a discussion of reducing the costs of non-public school busing.

Kakavas also made a presentation at a special public meeting in August. At the time, the district was over consolidating private school bus routes and eliminating courtesy busing for Grades 1-4. The school board eventually restored the bus routes.
