For the ninth year in a row, the Teaneck Community Charter School recently participated in two events run by the American Heart Association.  Students of all grades learned about the dangers of heart disease along with the importance of exercising. They were also given donation envelopes and were encouraged to raise money for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Fifth through Eighth grade students participated in Hoops for Heart on November 14th, 2011. Gym teacher, Mike Tuozzolo divided grades into four teams to play basketball tournaments against one another. The students who donated money also played in a knock out challenge, resulting in the winner receiving a medal. This year, students Naomi G., Antonio V., Addie G., and Jordan H were the winners of the challenge. Eighth grade student Terel O. mentioned “I like this event because it is a great way to get the upper school and lower school students involved with helping people and saving people’s lives.”

Mr. Tuozzolo arranged jumping stations, consisting of a variety of different jumping techniques such as double dutch, and single jumping. Fourth grade student Nahali T. said “This event was great because it was for a good cause. We get to exercise and help people at the same time.”

Every year TCCS generally raises over five thousand dollars. All proceeds go to the American Heart Association.
