Irish Culture Essay Contest for H.S. Seniors in Bergen

The contest is sponsored by the Council of Irish Associations of Greater Bergen County and is open to local high school seniors

The Council of Irish Associations of Greater Bergen County is sponsoring an essay contest for high school seniors in an effort to raise awareness of Irish culture.

High school seniors must reside in Bergen County and must be planning to attend college. The grand prize winner will receive $500 and the two runners-up will receive $200 each. 

The essays must be between 600 and 1,200 words and must be postmarked no later than April 15 and sent to Council of Irish Associations, P.O. Box 5113, Bergenfield, NJ 07621.

The essay must be written on one of the following topics:

  • Coffin Ships: Research and describe the trip to America
  • Gross Ile, Quebec, Canada: What does it represent?
  • When reaching America: How were the Irish treated?
