Man Convicted In Bergen Love-Triangle Murder: Report

Sui Kam “Tony” Tung was found guilty Tuesday of killing his estranged wife’s boyfriend, a Teaneck software engineering, Robert Cantor and setting his body on fire, The Record reported.

Tung, 52, was found guilty of eight of 11 counts, including murder, stalking, and hindering apprehension by concealing or destroying a handgun and computer data, the report stated.

Tung was charged with murder, felony murder, stalking, burglary, criminal possession of a handgun, aggravated arson, hindering, desecration of human remains, and tampering with evidence. He was acquitted on two felony murder counts and the burglary count.

The case was difficult due to the lack of evidence presented at trial, according to the report. There was no weapon, no DNA, no fingerprints, and prosecutors were unable to show that Tung was in New Jersey at the time the homicide occurred, the report stated.

Authorities linked together the circumstantial evidence and argued that Tung was the only person with the motive to end Cantor’s life where he did and in the manner in which he was killed, the report stated.

Tung first learned of the relationship in 2010 and stalked Cantor, eventually confronting him at his home the night before he was found dead, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said. Tung was indicted in June 2013. Tung’s estranged wife was in the process of divorcing him when the murder occurred and one of his three daughters reportedly met “Mommy’s friend” during a museum trip the Sunday preceding the murder, the report stated.

Authorities argued that Tung blamed Cantor for “ruining his life,” the report stated.

Tung is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 26. He faces life in prison on the murder charge.
