OLD BRIDGE -- Facing incredible 100-degree heat, the NJISAA held their 2011 Track and Field Meet of Champions Thursday in Old Bridge. Among the championship talent was members of the Teaneck Track and Field team notably Teaneck’s Senior Female Athlete of the Year Apresha Hampton who was a heavy favorite in the women’s Shot Put event. After a strong showing in the early rounds Hampton ranked first going into the finals with a 42 foot throw.
However, in the finals the heat took a toll and Hampton's best throw of 43-feet was came in third.
Another Highwaymen expected to make an impact was Sean Wimbush, a senior who burst onto the scene this year in the triple-jump and was expected to make a run at the State Championship. Unfortunately, this tournament turned into heartbreak for Wimbush as he faulted on all three jump attempts, ending any championship hopes.
