School Board Puts Student Activity Fee On Hold
Fee would not have generated as much as first expected, report says.

The Board of Education voted unanimously Wednesday to waive a planned $50 fee for students participating in clubs and sports.

Superintendent Barbara Pinsak said the district will refund students who already paid for the upcoming school year, the report said.

Several Teaneck High School students interviewed by Patch in June called the fee unfair. School officials, however, noted at the time that the fee was and was necessary to preserve programs and offset costs associated with school-sponsored activities.
Pinsak told the Board the fee would have raised less than first expected, the report said.

The district was forced to make deep cuts after being hit with $6.1 million in budget cuts last year when voters rejected the school budget.
