Storm Forces Teaneck Public Schools to Close for Third Day

Teaneck High School has no power, district says.

All Teaneck Public Schools will be closed Wednesday as the township continues to recover from a powerful early season snowstorm that hit the area, the district announced Tuesday night.

Safety concerns led district officials to close township schools, a statement from the district said. Public schools have been closed since Monday and Teaneck High School has no power.

“There are still blocked streets, downed power lines and downed limbs throughout the town. These would make bus and foot travel to school hazardous,” the statement said, noting school officials consulted with township emergency management personnel.

Teaneck was one of the hardest hit areas in Bergen County, with trees and power lines down across town. Thousands have been without power for days because of the storm.

“The company expects to meet the state’s goal of having at least 95 percent of its customers restored by Thursday,” PSE&G said in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon.
