Storytimes Pop Up at Parks in Teaneck

Library to provide a series of eight literacy events at Votee Park and Teaneck Creek Conservancy in July

The Youth Services Department of Teaneck Public Library has announced a new series of “pop-up” literacy events at local parks, in collaboration with the Township of Teaneck Recreation Department and the Teaneck Creek Conservancy.

“A big challenge for children and families during the summer is the decline in reading ability and academic skills when school is out of session, which is often referred to as the summer slide,” says Allen McGinley, Director at Teaneck Public Library. “In an effort to get more early childhood literacy events out into the community, we will be providing a series of eight story time events at Teaneck’s Votee Park on Palisades Avenue, and the Teaneck Creek Conservancy on Puffin Way.”

“Storytimes are an important way to boost literacy, and for children to hear and learn big and interesting words, and to interact with language,” says Amy Sears, Head of Youth Services. “By bringing storytime to the park, we are increasing access to literacy activities and the joy of hearing books read aloud for children who might not be able to come to the Library, especially in the summer.”
