Teaneck Community Education Center Announces Parenting Workshops

Host of parenting classes scheduled.

The following news release was submitted by the Teaneck Community Education Center:

The Teaneck Community Education Center’s Spring Brochure includes a number of workshops that offer insights into the world’s most difficult job:  parenting.  Professional social workers and educators will provide the tools required to guide children through developmental milestones, build trust, and strengthen family relationships. Advance registration is required for all classes and may be completed in-person at the Center office at , Teaneck, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, or by mail.  For complete details, call 201/833-5514 during office hours.

Guiding Children Through Life’s Stressful Events will be held on two Tuesdays, March 13th and 20th, 7:00-9:00 p.m., at a fee of $35 or $60 per couple.  Instructor Mark Staum, LCSW, will explore strategies and techniques to help children of different ages, cultures, and family backgrounds deal with tension-causing events and develop coping skills.

A single session class, How to Prepare Your Child for Kindergarten, will be held Wednesday, March 21st at a fee of $25 or $40 for a couple.  Instructor Robin Bado, MSW, ACSW, will offer reassurance and common sense advice to make this important first step stress-free and successful.

Lady Gaga is addressing the issue of bullying through an alliance with Harvard University; Ms. Bado will discuss The Impact of Social Aggression on Adolescent Female Development in Teaneck, Wednesday, April 18th, 7:00-9:00 p.m., again, for $25 or $40 for a couple.  The subtleties of bullying among girls in school and on the internet, the effect on self-esteem, and the impact on female adolescent development will be addressed.  Parents will learn how to recognize the dangers and respond appropriately.  The workshop is recommended for parents of girls 10-15 years old.

On April 30, 7:00-9:00 p.m., certified life - parent coach / educator Fern Weis will present Step In or Step Aside (Knowing when and how to intervene – or not – in your child’s challenges).  The fee is $25 / $40 per couple.  By the end of this two hour interactive session, parents will understand when they should step in and what they should say and do to help their children solve problems and deal with difficult issues.
