Teaneck Teacher Arrested After THC Found In 4-Year-Old's System

Unable to stand, a child was taken to the hospital. After doctors found THC in their system, a teacher from Teaneck was arrested.

TEANECK, NJ — A teacher from Teaneck was arrested after doctors at Hackensack University Medical Center discovered that a 4-year-old had consumed THC while under his watch, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said.

Avi Mandel, 30, was arrested Tuesday after a child was brought to the hospital who was "lethargic and unable to stand." Mandel is not a teacher employed by the township's public school district, a Teaneck Public Schools representative confirmed.

Test results found THC, the psychoactive component found in cannabis, present in the child's body. Authorities did not disclose how the THC ended up in the child's system.
