Bergen County Superintendent of Elections Patricia DiCostanzo issued a notice that Tuesday, June 16, 2020, is the last day for residents to register to vote for the July 7, 2020, Primary Election in the State of New Jersey. In order to be eligible to vote, a person must be an American Citizen, be 18 years old on or before July 7, 2020, and be a resident of New Jersey and Bergen County by June 16, 2020.

Bergen County residents may register to vote at the Office of the Superintendent of Elections, located at One Bergen County Plaza, Room 380, in Hackensack. In order to meet the needs of residents, this office will be open from 9:00AM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. People may also register at their local municipal clerk’s office, hours vary.

In light of the coronavirus pandemic and Executive Order No. 144, ALL DEMOCRATIC AND REPUBLICAN REGISTERED VOTERS WILL AUTOMATICALLY RECEIVE A VOTE-BY-MAIL BALLOT for the July 7, 2020 Primary Election. If an Unaffiliated or Inactive Status Voter would like to participate in the Primary they should complete and return the Vote-by-Mail Application that will be sent to them.
FOR THE 2020 PRIMARY ELECTION, ALL VOTERS WHO ARE NOT DISABLED ARE ENCOURAGED TO FOLLOW THE MAIL-IN BALLOT PROCESS.
Your mail-in ballot must be POSTMARKED by July 7, 2020 to be considered timely for submission. Even if postmarked by July 7, 2020 – the County Board of Elections will only be accepting postmarked ballots up until July 14, 2020.
We suggest dropping your ballot in the mail before July 7, 2020!
MAIL-IN BALLOTS MUST GO TO YOUR COUNTY, NOT YOUR MUNICIPALITY!
If you are skeptical of regular mail during the COVID-19 Crisis, there will be multiple, secured drop boxes for you to drop your ballot off in throughout the County. The deadline to drop off your mail in ballot in the County-designated drop boxes is July 7, 2020 8PM.

Please take note that the Township of Teaneck will only have 4 (FOUR) physical polling locations with 1 (one) voting booth each. Your assigned polling location will be detailed on your Sample Ballot from the Bergen County Clerk.
If you have a disability and need an accessible ballot, please contact (201) 336-7020 or you may go to your assigned polling place, which will provide access to an in-person accessible voting device on Primary Election Day. Should you choose not to vote on a Mail-In Ballot and show up to one of the limited number of Polling Places on Election Day, only Provisional Paper Ballots will be available to cast your vote. The ADA compliant Voting Machine is only for voters who have a disability.
IF YOU MUST GO TO A POLLING LOCATION, PLEASE WEAR A MASK AND PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES!
Superintendent DiCostanzo would like voters, already registered in Bergen County, to be aware of the procedures regarding late address changes within county. If a voter has moved from one election district to another in the SAME town or has moved to another town in Bergen before Tuesday, July 7, 2020, please notify this office as soon as possible so that a Mail-In Ballot or an application can be sent to you. If you have any questions, please call 201-336-6110 for assistance.
The Bergen County Superintendent of Elections’ office is responsible for Voter Registration and all associated concerns, Issuing Voter Acknowledgement Cards, Maintaining Custody of Voting Machines and Poll Books, as well as other duties relating to the enforcement of elections laws as per NJSA Title 19.
On Tuesday, July 7th, voters will cast ballots for their party candidates for President of the United States, US Senate, Congress, Freeholders, and local candidates. It is up to each and every American Citizen to exercise their right to vote.
