What Is Seasonal Influenza (flu)?
Avoid contact with ill people and if you are ill, stay home from work or school, and limit contact with others.
From the Township of Teaneck: In light of the recently increasing numbers of influenza cases in the U.S., here are some facts, precautions associated with this disease and also, where to find a flu shot in the area.
New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) recommends the following steps which prevent the transmission of infections such as Influenza:
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with tissues and dispose of them properly.
- Cough or sneeze into your sleeve, not your hands or into the air.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Wash hands frequently, especially after coughing or sneezing.
- Avoid contact with ill people and if you are ill (especially with a fever), stay home from work or school, and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
- Get a flu shot – it’s not too late to be protected!
Symptoms of this infection can include fever, respiratory symptoms (cough/runny nose), sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue and sometimes nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. If you become sick, contact your health care provider by phone.
