1 Killed, 1 Hurt As Car Hits Tree In Toms River: Police

Breaking: Police were still working to notify the driver's family, a spokesman said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — One person was killed and a second one was injured Monday night when a car hit a tree in Toms River, police said Tuesday.

Police were not releasing any information on either the driver, who was not the registered owner of the car, or the passenger, because they have yet to notify the driver's family, said Ralph Stocco, spokesman for the Toms River Police Department.

Stocco said police and medical units were called to the area of Washington Street and Clifton Avenue shortly before 9 p.m. and found a 2006 Mini Cooper, which had been traveling east on Washington, had hit a tree, causing extensive damage.
