TOMS RIVER, NJ — A 1-year-old girl was hospitalized with burns after she accidentally spilled tea on herself at a Main Street residence, Toms River police said Monday.

The incident happened about 1:50 p.m. Sunday, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.

The investigation determined it was an accident, and that the girl suffered burns on her abdomen and legs when she grabbed a teapot from a table, Messina said.

Paramedics treated her at the scene and she was flown to the Burn Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, Messina said.
