TOMS RIVER, NJ — Toms River police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and homes as they investigate reports of two men apparently driving through neighborhoods scoping out potential theft targets.

The police department received several phone calls about 3:30 p.m. Sunday with residents describing a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee driving slowly through the New Hampshire Avenue and North Maple Avenue neighborhoods.

The callers told police there were two black men wearing ski caps in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and they appeared to be canvassing the area and may have entered or tried to enter a resident's vehicle on Donna Dee Court but weren't successful, police said.
