4 Injured In Boat Crash On Barnegat Bay Island: Fire Officials

Seven people were on a boat that crashed on Middle Sedge Island, Ocean Beach Fire Company officials said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Four people were injured Sunday when a boat ran aground on Middle Sedge Island in Barnegat Bay off the Chadwick Beach section, officials said.

The crash was reported about 9 p.m. Sunday, officials with Ocean Beach Volunteer Fire Company said.

The first responders found seven people on the boat, four of whom were injured, officials said. All seven were taken by boat to waiting EMS units and taken to hospitals, officials said.

One person was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, officials said.

Ocean Beach fire officials said they were joined in the initial response by East Dover, Silverton and Island Heights fire companies, along with Toms River Police, EMS units from Toms River Community Service Officers, Silverton EMS, Lavallette, South Toms River EMS and paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson.

Lavallette Fire Company handled the landing zone for the patient being who was flown out.

"Outstanding efforts by all who responded to remove all occupants and get those injured to shore as quickly as possible," Ocean Beach Fire officials said.
