After Every Goal, a Tribute to Ferrante

Raiders play first game since the death of a former teammate. Senior Captain pays tribute after each of five goals he scored..

It's something no coach, teammate, or parent can ever envision — or ever wants to envision.

On Thursday afternoon, Toms River East head lacrosse coach George Peters and his current team paid their final respects . Ferrante was killed in the early morning hours of April 10 in Pennsylvania.

"This week is tough," Peters said, "The kids really responded well to everything."

After completing his high school career at Toms River East, went on to play collegiately at Marywood University near Scranton, PA. He was a sophomore.

"We had a lot on our mind," Peters said, "But they came back and made it through the practices."

"The seniors on this team who were close to Nick really stepped up for us," he said.

In their first game the Raiders took care of Brick Memorial by a score of 14-7 at Toms River East high school.

Senior captain Alex Lorenco lead the Raiders with five goals — including three in the first quarter.

"Alex was great for us," Peters said, "He really was a leader and after each goal he paid a tribute to his friend."
