Car Smashes Into HR Block In Toms River

The driver, a Manchester man, was issued a summons for careless driving, police said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Manchester Township man received a summons Monday after his car smashed into the front of the H.R. Block on Route 37 west Monday afternoon, Toms River police said Tuesday.

Donald Caruso, 77, of Manchester, allegedly accelerated instead of hitting the brake while trying to park in front of the building about 2 p.m. Monday at 864 Route 37 west, said Jillian Messina, media specialist for the Toms River Police Department.

The car broke two windows and a piece of framework to the building, but an inspector from the Toms River Building Department deemed the building safe.

Messina said there were no injuries. Caruso was checked out at the scene by EMS personnel, andwas issued a summons for careless driving.

The accident is being investigated by Toms River Police Officer Brian Appleby.
