Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, the leaders of the Corps of Discovery will pay a visit to the Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library, Toms River on Saturday, July 30 at 2 PM.
In 1803 Captains Lewis and Clark were commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson to explore the Lousiana territory and find a water route to the Pacific Ocean.
Lewis and Clark will tell of their amazing journey into unexplored territory enduring hardships - weather, illness, and unfamiliar terrain as they tried to find a water route to link Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. They kept detailed notes in their journals about the plants, animals and people they encountered along the way in the territory that would become part of the United States.
