Flooding Swamps Route 35, Hampers Downtown Toms River Traffic

Low-lying areas are flooding as a result of the winter storm moving through the area. Officials are urging people to not drive through them.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Route 35 is under water in the Ocean Beach section of Toms River on Friday morning, the result of coastal flooding from the winter storm moving into the area.

In addition, flooding from the Toms River was hampering travel on Water and Irons streets near the U.S. Post Office downtown.

The Ocean County Sheriff's Office was urging motorists to avoid Route 35 in the Ocean Beach area and to expect delays downtown because of the flooded roads.

Authorities urge people to not drive through flooded roads because of the risk that vehicles could be swept away.
