Get Rid Of Unneeded Pills On National Take Back Day In Ocean County

Medications that are no longer needed can be disposed of safely at the collection event, which aims to keep pills off the streets.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Do you have prescription medication sitting in your cabinet that you no longer need?

You can dispose of it safely on Saturday, April 22, at the National Take Back Day prescription medication collection event, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ocean County Justice Complex on Hooper Avenue.

This collection site, sponsored by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, is one of multiple collection efforts by law enforcement around Ocean County and around the nation on Saturday.

You can drop off unneeded or expired medications that are in pill or dry forms. They cannot accept needles or liquid medications.

No identification is necessary; prescription labels should be removed from the containers.

The goal of National Take Back Day is to get prescription medications that are not needed out of the reach of people who will steal them and try to sell them on the streets illegally or use them.

If you are unable to drop off medications on Saturday, there are medication dropboxes at several police departments, including Manchester, Point Pleasant and Point Pleasant Beach. They are accessible and secure around the clock seven days a week.
