Hockey Benefit Raises $21K To Aid Injured Toms River Police Officer

The charity game between Toms River and Camden County police officers was just the latest effort to aid Brett Hansen of Brick.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Team Hansen Charity Hockey Game on Friday night raised $21,000 to assist with the medical bills and other expenses facing the family of Brett Hansen, the Toms River police officer injured in an off-duty crash earlier this year.

"We raised upward of $21,000 throughout the night and at Charlie's Pizza! TRPD won the game of course but in the end, everyone won! Thank you to everyone who supported the cause! Special thanks to Camden County Police Hockey Team, Winding River Skating Center, Fly on the Chicken and Charlie's Pizza!" the Toms River PBA said in a post on Facebook.

Hansen, 28, of Brick, remains hospitalized since the Jan. 3 incident. His mother, Lori, said he lost one eye and might lose sight in the other, and has a number of injuries and he faces a lengthy recovery.
