TOMS RIVER, NJ — If you are just starting your yard cleanup now that Halloween has passed, mark your calendars for Toms River's leaf collection dates.

The leaf collection is based on your recycling schedule and got underway Oct. 30. Bagged leaves should be curbside by 6:30 a.m. on the Monday of your collection week. Only bagged leaves will be collected.

The schedule is as follows:

  • If your recycling day is Monday, the second round of leaf collection will be the week of Nov. 27.
  • If your recycling day is Tuesday, the second round of collection will be the week of Dec. 4.
  • If your recycling day is Wednesday, your collection weeks are Nov. 6 and Dec. 11.
  • If your recycling day is Thursday, your collection weeks are scheduled for Nov. 13 and Dec. 18.

You do not have to wait until your collection week to put your leaves curbside, officials said.

"Sometimes we are ahead of schedule. You should put your bagged leaves to the curb before your scheduled week begins. We may come early," officials said.

If collection crews come early, they will still come through the area during the scheduled collection week.

Leaves are not permitted in the Ocean County landfill. If you miss the curbside collection, bagged or loose leaves can be taken to Toms River's Recycling Convenience Center, which is open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Leaves and brush also can be taken to the Northern Ocean County Recycling Center at 585 Oberlin Avenue South, Lakewood.

Wood chips and leaf mulch are available to residents at Toms River's Recycling Convenience Center.
