
Despite high school sports being in summer recess mode, local sports fans still have plenty of avenues to get their fix of competitive action.
On Tuesday June 28 the Ocean Running Club began their 2011 Summer Series, a four week long series of weekly 5k runs.
The opening race of the season brought out 133 participants to the Winding River Park course. Patrick Lesniak secured a first place victory with a race time of 17:41, beating out Billy Howell by four seconds.

Amy Caruso was the top female racer, with a time of 20:28.
Jake Howell took the top spot for the youth divisions, as he finished with a time of 18:53 in the 14 & under category.

The racing series continues this Tuesday, July 5, at Winding River Park. Participation is not limited to Running Club members, as registration will begin at 6:15 p.m., open to all that wish to participate. Registration is $5 for Running Club members, $6 for non-members.
In other local sports, the Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association moved onto the second week of its 2011 championship racing series. Here is a list of the winners from the July 2 races.
