Mail Carrier Attacked, Robbed In Toms River

Three men are being sought in connection with the attack, police said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A mail carrier was attacked and robbed Wednesday while delivering mail in a Toms River neighborhood, police said.

The attack happened in the area of Madison and Lexington avenues about 4 p.m. Wednesday, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.

Similar incidents have been reported throughout the state, she said.

The mail carrier told police he saw two men in hoodies walking down the street as he was delivering mail. As he returned to his mail truck, the two men hit him in the head and knocked him down, then kicked his head, Messina said.

The two men then took the mail carrier's belongings and fled down Madison Avenue toward Hooper Avenue; the SUV pictured above was used by the men to flee, she said.

Messina said police believe a third man was driving the getaway vehicle.
