Man In Crisis Prompts Extra Police At Beachwood Elementary

Beachwood police said the extra officers were a precaution.

BEACHWOOD, NJ — A man who was making threats to harm himself prompted Beachwood police to increase their presence around Beachwood Elementary School on Monday, police said.

Police received a call about noon Monday about the man, but before police arrived at his home, the man left and was believed to be in the woods behind Beachwood Plaza, in the area known as Johnson's Pit, Beachwood police said.

The school is holding summer classes, and because dismissal was happening about the same time as police were searching for the man in the area near the school, extra patrols were brought to the school, police said.
