Hundreds Remain Without Power In Toms River After Fierce Storm
Trees and power lines were down across Ocean County in the wake of thunderstorms that moved across New Jersey.
TOMS RIVER, NJ — More than 3,300 homes and businesses in Toms River remained without power Thursday following a fierce storm swept through Ocean County a day earlier, taking down trees and power lines across the area.
Jersey Central Power & Light was estimating that customers still without power — more than 9,000 across the county as of 5 a.m. Thursday — would have their service restored by 6 p.m. Friday.
The storm, which had knocked out service to more than 48,000 homes in Ocean County, took down dozens of trees and power lines. Some trees blocked roads. At least one downed wire in Toms River sparked a fire. Details on the extent of the fire were not immediately available.
