NY Man Hit, Killed Crossing Whitesville Road In Toms River

The driver remained at the scene and did not show signs of being impaired, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A New York man was killed Monday night when he was hit by a car as he walked across Whitesville Road, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday afternoon.

Howard Dasheff, 67, of Brooklyn, was hit about 8:45 p.m. on Whitesville Road near Jumping Brook Drive by a 2021 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Scott McIvor, Jr., 22, of Jackson, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Dasheff was taken to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, where he succumbed to his injuries, Billhimer said.

Dasheff was wearing dark clothing and was not using a designated crosswalk when he was hit, investigators found. There are crosswalks at Jumping Brook Drive; authorities did not say how far Dasheff was from the crosswalk when he was hit.

McIvor was not physically injured and stayed at the scene after the accident, Billhimer said. He showed no outward signs of impairment, the prosecutor said.

The crash remains under investigation by the prosecutor’s office Vehicular Homicide Unit, Toms River police and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
