Pedestrian Airlifted After Being Hit On Route 37 In Toms River: Police

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A woman suffered a serious leg injury when she was hit by a vehicle while walking along Route 37 on Sunday, Toms River police said.

The woman, whose age and hometown were not released, was hit shortly after 6 p.m. near Hawser Place, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.

The woman was walking along the road when she turned into traffic, the investigation found, Messina said.

She was conscious and alert when police arrived, and was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment, Messina said.

The driver stayed at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, and the investigation is continuing, Messina said.
