Pedestrian Hit, Killed On Route 37 In Toms River

The person was hit on the eastbound side of Route 37, Toms River police said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Authorities are investigating after a person was hit by a vehicle and killed along Route 37 on Tuesday morning, Toms River police said.

The person was hit not far from the Hooper Avenue intersection about 6:15 a.m., said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.

The driver stayed at the scene, Messina said.

The Toms River Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating, she said.

The New Jersey State Police Diversion Team also is assisting.

The crash closed two lanes of Route 37 east, the New Jersey Department of Transportation said.
