TOMS RIVER, NJ — A police car responding to the report of a boat run aground with injuries on the barrier island was hit by a vehicle Sunday night, Toms River police said.

Information on injuries from the crash, which involved the Toms River police car being T-boned, was not available late Sunday night as the investigation was in its early stages, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.

Messina said police, emergency medical services and firefighters were dispatched about 9 p.m. to the Boca Raton area in the Chadwick Island section after the boat ran aground, with passengers ejected. Several injuries were reported, she said.
