Program on Transitioning to College for Students with Disabilities Coming to the Lacey Library

FORKED RIVER – Do you have a child or loved one with a disability who will soon be starting their college journey? If so, you will want to attend “Transition to College for Students with Disabilities” from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 4 at the Lacey Branch of the Ocean County Library.

Academic accommodations for a high school student are often made by the individual in conjunction with their caregivers. However, accommodations in college are made by the student alone, and are different than those offered by high schools.

Jamie Arasz Prioli, the Director of Access and Disability Services at Ocean County College, will provide an overview of accommodations in a college setting. In addition, she will share information on eligibility determination and requesting accommodations during your student’s transition to OCC. Prioli has worked in the disability field for over 30 years and identifies as a neurodivergent adult with a lifelong hidden disability, which gives her a unique understanding of inclusion and accessibility.

This presentation is geared toward high school students and their families as well as students with disabilities considering college after taking a gap year or two. Please contact the Lacey Branch to request reasonable accommodations no later than one week before the scheduled event.
