TOMS RIVER, NJ — Toms River residents have been warned to not fall for a scam where callers claiming to be Toms River police officers say they have arrest warrants and demand money.

"Victims are told that there are warrants for their arrest and that they would need to pay a cash bail at a location other than the Toms River Police Department," police said.

"The Toms River Police Department, or any other law agency in the state, would never ask for cash in person, over the phone, or via digital payment services," the police department said. "If you receive a call asking for payment of any kind, hang up the phone and contact 9-1-1 to report the fraud in progress."
