Seaside Heights Man Struck, Killed On Route 37: Toms River Police

Breaking: Bruce Nussenbaum, 62, is the second pedestrian death in Toms River this week and third in Ocean County in the last 10 days.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Seaside Heights man was killed Friday morning when he was hit by a van on Route 37, police said Friday night.

Bruce Nussenbaum, 62, of Seaside Heights, was hit about 6:40 a.m. on the eastbound side of Route 37, said Ralph Stocco, spokesman for the Toms River Police Department.

Nussenbaum was not in a crosswalk when he was hit near Peter Avenue by a 2006 GMC van driven by Richard Roshop, 47, of Toms River, Stocco said. He was driving east just before sunrise when his van hit Nussenbaum, Stocco said.

Nussenbaum is the second pedestrian struck and killed this week in Toms River. On Tuesday evening, Richard Bococinski, 37, was struck and killed on Fischer Boulevard, Stocco said. A Lakewood woman, Irene Perosi, 53, was killed Dec. 5 when she was hit while crossing Shorrock Street in Lakewood. The Ocean County prosecutor's office said Perosi was not crossing at a crosswalk.

The crash is being investigated by Toms River Traffic Officer Terrence Warren, other members of the Toms River PD traffic unit, and detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. They are assisted by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department C.S.I. Division, he said.

No summonses have been issued and the crash remains under investigation, Stocco said.
