Seaside Park Man Convicted Of Handgun Charges, Threat To Police
A 2016 public disturbance led to the discovery of two handguns and hollow-point bullets in his backpack.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Seaside Park has been found guilty on gun charges and threatening a police officer in a 2016 incident, the Ocean County prosecutor's office announced Thursday.
Corey Cure, 24, of Seaside Park, was found guilty on two counts of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, one count of third-degree terroristic threats, and one count of fourth-degree unlawful possession of hollow-nose bullets following a two-week jury trial, Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said.
After the jury returned the guilty verdict, Cure pleaded guilty to two second-degree counts of being a certain person not to have weapons.

On Oct. 28, 2016, Cure was arrested by Seaside Heights police officers on a charge of creating a disturbance in public. A search of Cure’s backpack as a result of that arrest revealed the presence of two firearms, one loaded, and hollow-point bullets. Cure then threatened to kill one of the officers during the booking process, Billhimer said.
Because Cure had a prior criminal history, he was not allowed under New Jersey law to legally possess a firearm, Billhimer said.

Cure is being held in the Ocean County Jail and is scheduled for sentencing by Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan on July 26.
Billhimer said he wanted to acknowledge the efforts and hard work of Senior Assistant Prosecutor Jamie L. Schron and Assistant Prosecutor Andrew T. Leimbach, who tried the case; Detective Taryn Schwartz of the prosecutor's office; the Seaside Heights Police Department; the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Ocean County Engineering Department for their assistance and professionalism.
